My daughter has wet the bed last night and I'm washing the sheets, but it's soaked right through to the mattress. I've tried baking powder (Its on right now) and I'm going to hoover it off soon, anyone got any better ideas? She's at a birthday party today and idealy I would like it done within 5 hours. Thanks.

EDIT: I'm not rich, and the mattress is almost brand new, so I'm not willing to spend £100+ on a new mattress

in my experience i have found the best thing to do is get it out of the mattress.. use a wet/dry shop vac... a carpet cleaner with an upholstery cleaner.. what i do is get a bowl with hot water and some liquid laundry soap.. take a rag and soak the area.. wait 10 Min's then use the vacuum to suck up all liquid.. if you put a small fan blowing right on the wet area, it dries within a couple hours..it takes everything out so there is no "hiding" stains or smells..My daughter just had the same accident on my brand new mattress and when i was done.. i had no reminders of the accident.. and i even put my nose right on the area.. this will still work even if you have to do it a few days later..

Nature’s Miracle should work. It is available at Petsmart. Make sure you follow the direction. The main reason that it fails is that people just sprays it on and wipe it up and not let it soak into the carpet like the urine did. You my need to do this 2 or 3 time. Just reminder that the urine treatment product needs to go where the urine went for it to work properly.
In my experience, Nature's Miracle is your best bet. Good luck!

Accidents happen, particularly at night with young children. Here's an inexpensive and safe way to neutralize those nasty urine odors from your child's mattress.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 1 hour(since you have a time constraint)
Here's How:
Dampen the soiled areas with water.
Sprinkle borax over the areas
Rub the borax over the areas, working into mattress well.
Let dry.

best way is to use the upholstery cleaner on your carpet shampooer with a bit of hypoallergenic solution go to walmart they have different scents of solution there like lavender citrus etc. and as long as you don't completely soak the mattress and suck up as much of the water as possible then it will air dry by bedtime

Water and vinegar. Add vinegar to warm water and sponge onto area thoroughly. Not only will it remove the stain but the odor also. If you live in a warm climate open the window and if not then put a fan in to quicken drying time.

Get a new mattress and when you do, purchase a waterproof mattress pad to place on that new mattress. Every mattress in my house has a waterproof mattress pad. In addition, when my kids were younger, I put plastic garbage bags on top of the mattress, enough to have shoulder to knee coverage, then put on the mattress pad, then the sheets. Never have had a soiled mattress in over 30 years!!! Live and learn honey.
