in a nutshell mate,nothing.......a dvd rw does everything that a cd/dvd-rw does, that is why most systems these days are shipped with dvd-rw as it saves having to add another optical drive at a later date
as long as it has the abbreviation dvd-rw then its fine, the only reason they put cd/dvd-rw in the specification is to inform the customer that it burns/plays cd,d aswell as not everyone is computer-literate
i hoped this has answered your question
good luck with your new laptop

newer pcs will have a drive that will burn either cds or dvds, therefore they are cd/dvd burners. I have never seen a dvd burner that did not burn cds as well. If you see a dvd burner it must do cds. The rw means rewritable. A few burners will burn dvds but wont work on rewritable dvds.

Great question. As you know, cd's are made to copy and save audio and text where dvd's are made to copy and store video files. The difference in the two is the - or + part of the disks. Some cd roms and burners use - and some use +. Find out which one yours demands and use only that particular type of disks. Larry Radio Shack 01-9590
