....it is easy enough to set up a second Yahoo! email reserved only for Yahoo! Answers communications if one wishes. So I don't see that it is necessarily a matter of privacy. But maybe I'm wrong. Enlighten me please.

I confess I was hesitant at first myself. But enabling email has allowed me to have some very remarkable and valuable interchanges. And my email inbox has not been inundated.

How it works is that Yahoo! acts as an intermediary, a kind of clearinghouse between the 2 parties and never reveals the email address of either one to the other. When you receive such an email the choice is up to you. You can either reply to it or ignore it. Each email is limited to 1500 characters but you can send more than one if you like.

I think some people just don't want to be contacted. A few of my friends have had problems with stalkers who send multiple emails, so that maybe a reason.

I dont know. I for one can accept emails but not IM. Maybe people on here just dont want to communicate with their Y!A associates. I remember one time i got an email from this person that I had answered a question to and it wasn't very friendly. So maybe that may have something to do with it too.

Because they are afraid, some for good reason others because they are obnoxious, of what people will say to them in e-mail. I have mine available, but I have been victim of people emailing me nasty emails. Not everyone wants to hear what other have to say with not only anonymity of the Internet but the privacy of email where no one else can see what that person is saying.

Because there are so many annoying goofs out there who email you everything from offers for sex to threats. Some folks just don't want that hassle.
As for me, I have gotten some really sweet emails from the boys. But once I was bombasted by a psycho who did not like my ideas. He went balistic when I reported him.

There are a lot of crazy people on the Internet, I prefer not to have these people contact me, I've had problems in the past with people sending me stuff I don't want, and I have enough stuff do deal with, then to worry about getting hate mail, or chain letters. I just don't like to have people I don't know contact me.

Well alot of times, people probably want to be able to say anything they want without someone calling them on it. In the politics section the biggest jerks dont have their email turned on. I have both my email and im turned on so if you dont like something I can you just tell me instead of reporting it. You shouldnt be allowed to send email if your email is not turned on.

It's not going to come to my email anyway. I only get emails from people in my address book. Everything else goes to the spam detector and I just delete them.
