It's funny, but there is almost no group in history that doesn't have the feeling they are persecuted. The whites, during the fifties felt they were persecuted. At a time when they were lynching blacks, they felt persecuted. Many Christians, in this country feel persecuted. They are in the vast majority, yet feel persecuted. Often they feel persecuted because the courts have prevented them (the Christians) from forcing all children from praying in schools.
All groups are attacked at some time or another. It is extremely psychologically stable to get into a defensive mode of thinking.
Right now, Americans feel persecuted, Muslim Arabs feel persecuted, Israelis feel persecuted, Palestinians feels persecuted. All of these groups have been attacked, but is it truly persecution?

I have to put this as simply as possible or I will end up writing a book. First of all I am an American. The problem is that we are greedy and we push other countries around to get what we want NOT because we want to help anyone. Our political leaders are greedy bastards who are willing to step on as many corpses as it takes to fatten their wallets. The don't care about the people they care about power. Unfortunately the majority of this country is dangerously arrogant and ignorant. We send our young men and women off to war in the name of oil. I'm not saying I agree with terrorism by any means. But take a moment and think about what you would do if someone killed your entire family one day. Or if you had to watch your baby die of hunger. Or if you lived in an actual MUD hut and everyone around you was dieing of diseases that haven't killed anyone in the western world for the last 50 years. Would you feel desperate? Would you love America? They aren't jealous of us. They look at us and wonder how we could be capable of such violence, greed and arrogance.
P.S. To those of you who wonder why so many immigrants want to come here if we aren't "the best". What would you do if this was the only place where you could find a job so your children could eat?

Because the U.S.'s foreign policies affect an awful lot of people in a negative way, which breeds fear, hatred and mistrust. People from other countries feel that since we elect our leaders and our leaders make these policies, we must stand behind these policies since these leaders, in effect, speak for the people. I'm an American living in Canada, and I get questions all the time about what the hell we're thinking and why we keep electing governments that act the way they do.
