I have an afro like hairdo if I just leave it aloneto grow, but it has the afro shape , not the curls (it stands completely straight). If I let it grow, it will still be standing even at 4 - 5 cms at length. if its a gene thing, both my parents hair goes down like everyone else, so gene ain't the problem. I'm thinking it has something to do with my lifestyle, anybody?

I think people should learn to go with the most simple route for what ever type of hair they have, I always tried to make mine go straight then I figured out the right products to make it look like I intended it to do what it does naturally. There are things like Frizease that makes the hair curl in a natural way and not fly away. And I found a mouse that makes it curl in a natural direction. I always condition and have more control over it. I think it depends on you and how much time you want to spend making it look like something other than what it is.
I want to live my life enjoying it, not all my life in the bathroom fixing my hair.

In case you are not sure what it is, a cowlick is a little tuft of hair that tends to be unruly and will tend to pop up anywhere. If you have one, you know exactly what it is and probably have waged your own hair wars with the dreaded wild hair.

Alfalfa from the famous Our Gang hit comedy series of the 1930s and 1940s was famous for his cowlick.

Usually Alfalfa had one persistent cowlick that would stick straight up at the back of his crown.

While Alfafa's hair was part of an enduring characterization, most people hate any sort of hair anomolies that are difficult to deal with.
What Is A Cowlick?

Cowlicks occur when hair forms a pivot that distributes the hair from a specific point around in all different directions.

On some heads the hair recedes at the temple hairline causing a type of erratic hair pattern.

Cowlicks are most often found in the crown area but they may also be found along the front of the hairline around the face and the nape areas.

Most people are born with their cowlicks. People that suffer hair from chemotherapy or other illness may be horrified to discover that a new cowlick pattern will emerge along with their regrowth of their hair.

No one is exempt from the dreaded cowlick. Lots of famous people have cowlicks. Famous beauty, super model Claudia Schiffer, is reported to have not one but two cowlicks at the front of her hairline.

By using a light pomade, straightening gel, mousse or styling cream with a blow dryer, the hairline cowlicks can be blown into submission.

Get a millitary haircut and stop worrying about it. Not the "high & tight" like the Marines, but get more of a "fade" (buzz up to ear level, the gradually fade into 2" or 1 1/2" on top).

No bad hair days.....

Put some vinegar 1/8 cup or so (doesn't matter what type) in about 1 cup of water, and rinse your hair after shampoo. Keep this out of your eyes as it will sting. If that does not help your hair relax a bit, then you may want to check out the shampoo products available - or consult your barber, to relax your hair.

I think the best thing to do is use product on it. Or maybe wear a du-rag, they can be found in the 99 cents store. Wear it when you sleep, it'll make your hair go down. =)
Good Luck.
