I really don't want to see him retire, he was a great player, and I'm not even much of an Astros fan. I just wanna see him sit on that invisible bench in the batter's box for at least one more season...

I think if Bagwell clearly wanted to play somebody would sign him to a minor league deal and see if he could last out. The question is not whether he can still hit but whether he can stay off the DL long enough to hit. Bagwell has a degeneritive shoulder condition. So it's never going to heal. It will just get worse the rest of his life.

This is really sad as Bagwell hit in the Astrodome most of his career. That was THE worst part to hit in during it's entire existence. Would have loved to see that balenced out some with Minute Maid park with is a hitter's paradise. Bagwell needed only a couple more good seasons to be a first ballot certain HOF. His not getting his 500th HR worries me. There are guys with 500 HRs who won't make the hall nowdays. I think Bagwell deserves the HOF. Would love to see him get those couple good years to ice the cake and be certain to get it.

Bagwell also played with more class than most modern players. He signed for considerably less than he'd gotten as a free agent on more than one occasion. He was a steady and positive influence on the team year after year.

I think we would love to see him play one more year. I don't think anyone will grab him since the injuries are to great to overcome. Leaving now would be the smartest move for his legacy since we all question players hanging on too long and he already has and now if another team grabs him it will further knock down his legacy and let kids today think was nothing special just able to put up good numbers and play a long time. It is time we let him go.

In the Houston Chronicle reporting Bagwell himself seemed to be ready to retire. He was a great player.

nahh i dont think so. He'll retire for sure. I have a feeling that he will come back as a hitting coach or some sort of coach and maybe a minor league manager.

If he can still hit, he can play in the AL.

I don't think anyone's gonna pick him up, really. He's injured and no one wants that on a payroll.
