I have a Dell Inspiron 700 m laptop. In the box below the keyboard, which controls the mouse, I used to be able to scroll up and down on a website or document, by sliding my finger up or down on the right hand side of that little square. Now it is not working, and I dont know if there is any way I can fix it myself using the computer settings, or whether it is a physical problem and I have to have it looked at. Does anyone know?

Funny thing, I rebooted my computer and it worked again!! Then it quit again; but since rebooting seems to fix it, I think I may have inadvertently pushed a button...?

There is probably a driver to control that. I have a gateway, and its probably the settings thats wrong. Try going to the control panel, get to the mouse settings, and clicking on the tab that says DEVICE SETTINGS. then click settings. you should have a window full of mouse and scrolling settings.

You need to be useing Synaptics for this to work properly.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
