Both isn't a good enough answer.
Friction is good. It exists for a reason. Think of all the thinks we couldn't do without it. Drive around corners or at all for that matter. Those spinning things at the fair where you 'stick' to the wall. Brakes on your bike...the list goes on.
We can solve the problem if there is too much friction, just use a bit of oil.

Friction stops us falling over. If we sneezed and there was no friction we would be propelled in the opposite direction of the sneeze. Friction enables vehicles to brake. Friction would wear out a car engine in minutes without the use of oil to reduce the friction. There are many examples so have a little think about what others there are. In short friction has benefits to us and in other cases it is unwanted.

I work at a place that makes brake pads and clutch disks.
Friction is good when you are stopping something like using the brakes on a car or plane (we make brakes for both) or when you want to transmit power through a transmission (clutch disks).
Friction can be bad if you want to move something like sliding heavy furniture across the room.
Friction is also known as traction when referring to tires or shoe soles. With poor traction (low friction) it's hard to move around because you slip and slide.

Both. it could be both because when there are earthquakes, there is friction between the rocks on earth. They slide against each other and cause FRICTiON. I couldnt think of an explanation for the positive side of friction but i KNOW there is. Good Luck =)

Friction is bad thing when driving a car. It needs energy to overcome the road, engine and transmission frictions.
Friction is good thing when you apply the brakes. You are using the friction between the brake pads and the brake disks to slow and stop the car.

Good -
Prevents you from slipping when walk and from skidding when driving. (imagine walking on ice - floor with little friction and you will appreciate the presence of friction.)
Slows things down, so that we can have a live-able life, e.g your life is able to slow down as it reaches the lower floor, your shopping cart doesn't roll down the conveyor belt as it moves from the 2nd to the 1st floor...
Bad -
You have to change your shoes or tires when they are worn out due to friction.
Engines and other mechanical machines overheat due to friction.

If it's under your control so It could be good but if it's not under your desirable situation and you couldn't make changes in it so it's a bad thing ..;)
and so as you see it depends on the situation and position that you want to consider about it ...

It is yours to control as you see fit. I'm thinking friction burns on a rope (bad), but it can also warm your hands up in winter (good).
Everything in life has its pros & cons.

it is both. friction can destroy machine parts and kill engines.
But friction also is a good thing, it can warm your hands when they are cold or give you traction when you need to stop.

..its a mixed blessing.....when we want to slide something, like say a heavy box, friction makes it tougher....n we end up spending more energy....
....but when we apply breaks to stop a car, its just friction that causes the car to stop.....
......thus its a necessary evil.....
