One of the best "free" web based email services is, '
Gmail' from Google. (it may be the best web based email service out there). You need an invitation from a Gmail user to join. Check your present email address book for a friend that sent you email from Gmail and email them asking for an invitation.

Gmail is still in beta, but it's a great web based email service. You need to be invited, but once you are, you'll have lots of space to store your mail.
You'd have 2788 mb to use.

I would have to agree with most of the other answers you have received, Google mail (gmail). I have friends that use it.
