I don't think real silver rusts, it tarnishes. Try silver polish, it should work. Or something soft and none scratching like Vim.

Take an old toothbrush and some toothpaste and scrub it with this. If it still is being stubborn add some baking soda to the toothpaste even if your toothpaste already contains baking soda. You can use an abrasive dishwashing pad made from plastic. If its really stubborn use a brillo pad but be careful. Good luck.

I know how I cleaned mine last week.. had not been cleaned in 20 years or more. I bought some paste silver polish and it worked wonders.Bought it at Walmart's

Try using WD-40, for the rust you may need a little crocus cloth, real fine stuff so you don't scratch it.
