Material living has been glamorized in order to get people to buy more stuff and to always want more. That's how businesses are run and more money is made. Success is advertised as being rich and owning things others will envy you for owning and will want to imitate you and own themselves, ultimately making more and more sales.

Rich and greedy are two different things.

If you are rich you are not necessarily greedy.
In this day and age living the " hippie lifestyle " doesn't provide well enough for a stable financial home.
Everyone would like a little extra money from time to time its just how you use that money and what you give back to others that counts. The price of living, taxes, interest goes up every year and you just have to keep up with it.
