Remember the days of Ken Bates? 90 million in debt.

That is true. Before Abramovich arrived Chelsea were deep in debt like Leeds and were even in danger of going bust. Abramovich saved them just in time.

Man U shoudn't have sold out to the Glazers, as they were healthy financially. It is a gamble that they have taken.

They were in trouble before roman took over. they were allegedly 3 weeks away from going into administration. Bates was hawking Hasselbaink/Gudjohnsen/Bogarde around Europe just to get them off the wage bill. Regardless of what folks think of Abramovich, he's wiped the debt off and secured The Blues future.

You have a good point, and I think if they didn't have so much money, they would not be as good as they are right now. But if they did not have the billions but had Mourinho, who I personally think is a fantastic manager, I think they could still be well off. Who knows if they would be the best or if they would be mediocre...We'll never know. But I think Mourinho could still do a lot with a lot of English players anyway.
