Having never been to Iran or run into many Iranians, I really can’t say much about it. I can only comment on what I have read about and what I see on the television. I’m sure there are a lot of great Iranians and the culture would surely be interesting to study. I do not support the president of Iran and I believe the Iranian people could have a better leader. However, nobody and no country is perfect. I believe that a lot of Americans judge the country of Iran and its citizens from a negative view of their Government and from the terrorist attack on our embassy back in the 70’s. I know these do not represent Iran and the Iranians in a whole.

I think that Iran has a lot of potential to become a good model for Islamic democracy only if the right kind of changes are brought about also the kind youth mobilization that was visible during the revolution seems to have diminished , maybe because of the present govt.
They should not worry abt American intervention much but rather concentrate on making Iran more developed (in areas such as technology ) for this it needs to become more open .
I think that culturally it is one of the best countries were people are warm and friendly . Also i like the historical sites and geography ( where else can you ski and visit the sea in the same country .)

I love Iran. I love the people, the culture, everything about it. I think a lot of people get the wrong idea of the nation because of the negative propaganda they have in the west. You can't really say anything about Iran if you never been to iran. I go to iran every summer, and I look forward to it every winter. Yes, the government is not like the government in the west, and yes it is not the BEST government either, I know. BUT the people are warm, kind and fun, its so much fun getting to know them. You have to see it to believe it.

I am against authoritarian state but Iran is kinda cool. It is among the few countries in the world who has the resources and the capability to stand up to the US. Imagine the US has been trying to force the Security Council to impose tough sanctions to Iran but cannot do so due to veto-wielding countries China and Russia who has lot of interests in Iran. It also developing regional clout to overturn US clout in the Middle east. Its decision, along with Syria, to help Iraq is a move aimed at nuetralizing US influence in Iraqi policies.

Iran is a country poised to be highes threat the US will encounter after the collapse on the Soviet Union.

Iran is Iran, because of our interference. They used to have a very decent prime minister in the 50s called Mossadegh. He was friendly with Europe and the US; he cared about his people; and he was all about getting along with his neighbors. (He was also Time/Life's man of the year 2Xs.
Then he had this brilliant idea to take the money from the oil in Iran and use it to pay for the social reforms in his country.
Unfortunately for him, Great Britain owned the oil wells. They came to us, and along with several secret service agents from Great Britain, Roosevelt's CIA grandson created a revolution in Iran. The sheik we put into power, was fairly useless. He was all about lavish lifestyles and money for his pocket. At this point, Iran created its own revolution, and the Ayatollahs have run it ever since.
Because of history, the Ayatollahs trust the US about as far as they can throw us.
Because of our interference, a country has mutated and evolved into something that doesn't work with us.
Maybe we should start learning from history, and stop putting our noses into things that we know nothing about.

Kinda makes you wonder the REAL reason we went to Iraq instead of Iran. The nation has the largest oil supply of any Middle Eastern nation; yet, it's developing a nuclear program for energy uses only. Yeah right. So I ask you, why are we really in Iraq instead of Iran. . .a bigger threat to us than Saddam was?

I think I'm happy that I don't live there....as far as it being the USA's fault that Iran (along with all the other countries in the Middle East) is the way it is....Hey, we have broad shoulders...blame us...I'm sure it's our fault that insurgents are killing their own people by the hundreds every day.
Sorry, I sleep well at night.

They are held captive by a gang of medieval Mullahs. If they want to be free, they need to get rid of all the Mullahs. I mean ALL of them! SAnyone who dares suppress the freedom of the people is a tyrant who deserves the worst. And religion is no excuse. The Qu'ran says "There is no compulsion in religion" but in any Islamic State, compulsion is what you get.
