Yes can go to Preston though you need to change there or at Wigan. Takes about 4 hours in total . About an hour to Preston from Liverpool.

You can check times at www.nationalrail.co.uk - and you can put a via option so you make sure it goes via Preston

I don't think a train goes direct to Glasgow from Liverpool. If you were going to Glasgow you would have to change at Preston. I think roughly it takes about 4-5 hours
