I do not know if I have ever been corrected as I have not gone back to any questions where I have posted an answer, I suppose I should as many of the answers already posted are so far off track that they make me laugh or make me wonder how many times the doctor dropped the poster on their head when they were born.
I would not care if someone thought they were correcting me as long as they got it right, be it the new and unimproved version(American) or the original.
Pity more people don't use spell check they may improve their command of the English language, also wouldn't it be nice if someone came up with a grammar check program.
But the really scary thing is that some of these posters are teachers or will become teachers.
Well I think I will revisit some of the questions that I have answered now, may bring a smile to my dial.

No problem for me. I have a iMac OS X (Tiger) which has speech
correction, both written and spoken (American). When I write metre
it is underlined in red and meter is not. I don‘t pay any attention as
I know how to spell, but I find it useful when typing quickly and I make
a real mistake. As for the answers above, I think that both, Americans
and British should show some respect for each other‘s differences.
I was born in Glasgow, studied in Edinburgh and live in Brazil and I
often answer questions in the UK, USA or Brazil. My site is Yahoo.uk
and I can sense that there are many Americans that prefer to answer here.
It is easy to tell, not only from the spelling but also
from their slang and expressions. Other foreign English speakers
are equally and easy to identify, like the answer immediately
above mine. Anyway, I wish the lot of you all the best and an
friendly "abraço".

hi, what you're pointing out is not so much that you acknowledge you have a problem with spelling, its more to point out your prejudice against americans.
Anybody can spell incorrectly, americans, british, asians, africans, you name it.
I have an excellent command of English, because it is my first language, yet, i am fully trilingual, that means, proficient in 3 languages to the level where I can read, write and speak all three without much difficulty.
I know americans have altered certain words such as neighbour (to neighbor) and colour etc (to color and so on) however, i've taught here in the uk for 4 years (French) and I often got told, because kids thought i was french, that i shouldn't correct their English, yet, not only am I not French, nor is it my first, but in fact my third language, yet I have a post-graduate degree in English, and its my mother tongue. I noticed that the one thing common to most English/British kids is they suck at spelling. Why is that? One boy in year 7 asked me one day (when I was doing French grammar with them) do I know what a noun is...I was so miffed I explained what it was but i suggested if he has difficulty understanding parts of speech, he and his family could come for extra lessons, because I'm versatile enough as a linguistic specialist. He then stood up with a mottled colour and strangled expression yelling he'll get my butt kicked back to France for that! I said that might have applied had I been French. The class giggled and that seemed to spur on his truth or dare moment about his tainted ideas on my background...I can only conclude, since no one is born with prejudice, that for one such a young person to yell out his prejudice off the top of his head, that it must have come from somewhere other than just his miserable self?

I have noticed if anyone makes a slight spelling mistake on here, they will get ridiculed for it. Irrespective of the question I think some people are more interested in putting people down rather than commenting on the subject matter.

I haven't been corrected by any Yanks before or Brits for that matter. However, I suppose I wouldn't mind if someone corrects me in a constructive manner. Well, anyway, I've seen Yanks and Brits with worst spelling and grammar than a 6th grade Asian students in Asia. hehehe...

Hah....I've lived in the United States all my life and although people living in England or the UK or The British Isles speak English, I've always considered my language as AMERICAN!!!
Although I love to hear people from the UK speaking with their unique accent, I have no problem with them misspelling AMERICAN words as long as they don't mind me misspelling an English word now and then.

No, I'm in the UK and I don't mind American spelling at all - because it's allowed in the official wordlist, when you play Scrabble it lets you put down more words then you would otherwise be able to place!

I find it annoying when anyone corrects anyone's spelling on Yahoo. If they like correcting people, they should become teachers, but this is a chat forum, not school and people shouldn't be expected to write like they are doing their homework.

I downloaded Scrabble for free here: http://bitly.com/1oh8aNa
In this board game, there are some rules to follow. At first, you have your own set of tiles, and you must create your own words to play in order for you to have your score.
