misspells? Do you think that foreigners have a definite misspelling pattern according to their native language?

and for joshua, or the person who said I'm a prejudiced american... I'm a "foreigner" myself, English is not my native language and I was just curious if people notice differences between non-natives... some type of mistaking pattern (and actually I noticed some too)

Well, I'm such a foreigner, I'm from the Netherlands.
And yes, due to the fact WE built our sentences in another way than the English-speaking people do, I think there IS a pattern....not of misspelling necassarely, but more where grammar is concerned.

Now some of the misspelled words you can def. recognise as being typo's.....however, there ARE a few words I keep having problems with, and unfortunately I often choose (one of those words : chose or choose) the wrong spelling. (hoping I got it right, of course. LOL)

What DOES annoy me (and I probably get slayed for that) is the fact some people don't use any capital (another of those words I have problems with : capital or capitol?) letters to start a new sentence with, and even worse, some of them don't use any punctuation at all.
I find it hard to read stuff like that in Dutch already, let alone in English!

P.s. : I just read the other answers....IS there spellcheck on this site??? (I DO use it in my Outlook)

While addressing a question on an international platform like this, it is strange to come across the word 'foreigner'. It may be a view point of an individual staying in a particular country. However it is worth noting that UK, the house of English, is importing teachers from India, where the second language is English and is considered to be better written and spoken than in most English speaking countries of the world.

well i'm a foreigner, have never been to an english speaking western country and english isn't even my first language, yet i have better command of my grammar than some americans or brits i know here and they've told me so themselves. English being someone's native language doesn't gurantee being free from bad grammar in their speech or spelling errors. It's alot more silly when u come across a native english speaker who makes those kinda errors when conversing or writing using their first language. meanwhile, i salute any foreigner who actually speaks english, errors or no. after all, nobody gets annoyed when an english speaking native struggles with a language like greek or zulu...infact, most would find it quite impressive. so why post this q.??

That depends on how many words are misspelled. A few usually don't bother me, but I have run into allot of post that I just give up on because time is to short to spend 30 minutes read two paragraphs.
Since most of the misspellings I run into are on the Internet and I have no idea what their nationality is I can't be sure about your second question, but yes would be my guess.
Spell checkers on the net are usually free.

Uhhhh.... No...

I am not bothered by misspelling...

I AM bothered by continuous CAPS and a paragraph filled with ebonics.

No... I don't think there is a misspelling pattern according to one's native language.... maybe one's native grammar structure...

for example the Japanese grammar structure is completely different from American English... so it's a hard transition.

but still... I don't think so...

I'm not that annoyed. I mean, the person is trying. If I don't like it, I look away or just deal with it.
Dogzilla has a point there! Teenyboppers... Ah, gosh! All of those abbreviations-- l8er, OMG, convo... I'm like, "What the f***? Do I have to relearn that language? I don't want to be 12 again!"

I don't mind the way foreigners spell things.....it's how the teeny boppers spell that bugs me.

Their habit of using letters when they mean words, and their silly little shorthand spellings, is obnoxious.

It might just be sloppy typing or editing. You won't see me complaining too much about how you your spelling error. (It's is mispell, not misspell).
