Silk worms spent most of their life eating the mulberry before
spining themselves a cocoon.
People boil the cocoons in hot water to kill the worms before
removing the silk.Of course,they let some of them live.............

Silk worms weave it to make their cocoons, just like regular caterpilars. But people take their cocoons away before they're done, so they have start all over again. The reason silk is expensive is because they only get one cocoon at the time.

"Silk worms," the caterpillars of the domesticated silk moth, make the cocoon out of silk, then the entire cocoon is unraveled (it's made out of a single long thread). Then a lot of these are spun together and that's woven to make silk.
Yes, the pupae die, but they are fed to livestock. And they're freakin' insects!

Silk comes from the silk worm, you have to boil it to get the silk out.
