Nappy Rash is the sore, red rash that can develop on the area of a baby's skin that is covered by nappies.

A baby's skin is very soft and tender, which means it is quite susceptible to any type of irritation. Nappy Rash is a skin irritation that is very common in babies. It most cases, it can be treated quite easily and even prevented.
may be due to
- Excessive moisture. This may be due to contact with urine and faeces, or sweating, which often occurs when plastic pants are worn over cloth nappies.
- Rubbing and chafing of the nappy against the skin. This is more common in walking and crawling babies.
- Ammonia, a substance produced by stale urine, is an irritating chemical that can cause a rash to develop.
- Fungal infections such as candida albicans, that thrive in warm moist areas of the skin. These are more common if the baby or breastfeeding mother is taking antibiotics.
- Allergic reactions to ointments, disposable nappies, baby wipes, soaps or laundry products used to wash cloth nappies.
- Other skin problems such as psoriasis or seborrhoeic dermatitis .
- A recent dietary change e.g. weaning or changing from breast milk to infant formulas.

Prevention
An easy way to remember the steps in prevention and treatment of nappy rash is A, B, C, D and E.
A- Airing
- Keep your baby's skin dry and allow the baby to go without a nappy for small periods of time to expose the skin to air.
- Avoid using plastic overpants. Brushed cotton pilchers are suitable.
B- Barrier
- Apply a protective cream at each nappy change. Zinc and castor oil is recommended.
C- Cleansing
- Change nappies as frequently as possible.
- Clean the area with a mild, soap-free products and pat dry. Avoid rubbing the skin.
- Do not use baby wipes or products that contain alcohol or perfumes.
D- Diaper/nappy care
- Disposable nappies are preferred for preventing Nappy Rash, as they are more absorbent than cloth. If you prefer cloth nappies, consider a disposable for overnight, when nappy changes are less frequent.
- Cloth nappies should be washed and rinsed thoroughly and dried in the sun or a hot drier to kill any germs.
- Absorbent nappy liners may be used in cloth nappies.
E- Education
- See your Child Health professional for further advice on preventing and treating Nappy Rash.

Diaper rash

get some cornstach and petroleum jelly. Mix it 50/50 and apply. That will clear it up in no time. Can be used anywhere the diaper covers to get rid of the rash. Clean before you apply.

it copuld be nappy rash, or even eczema, keep it well moisturised dont use wipes for a while use cotton wool and warm water instead, try leaving his nappy off as much as you can, if hes not sitting up yet you can double a towel and put under him for when he messes, make sure you clean him as soon as his wet or dirtied to prevent it stinging him, if hes toddling about you can still leave his nappy off and pin a towel loosely as a nappy (a small towel so you dont prevent his mobility), and leave the air get to it moisturise it regular and it will be gone in no time

Is it spotty? Has he been on any medicine? It could be a yeast infection. Antifungal cream will get rid of it. If not, my answer would be like the rest.
