...that seems expensive and more appropiate for am older child. are there cheap music players out there?

You can get a cheap mp3 player at walmart from, $60 to $100 that would do fine for him. Personally, the only cell phone my kid will see until they're much older is the one that has 4 preset buttons that calls only 4 numbers.

I think that 8 year old really doesn`t need a cell phone. Only if he is going on some after school activities and you have to be in contact with him. But still he is so young,and we all know that we actually knew how to live really good without cell phones. There will be time to buy him that later. And for iPod,I think that this product is very useful,but children of his age doesn`t really need that serious stuff. I know because I have it,and my younger brother (12 y.o.) was crazy about it,but actually he listens it one time a week. So it would be just waste of money. You can certainly buy him some other cheaper mp3 players. Hope that I helped.

You can buy him a disney music player at Target or Toy'R'Us A lot cheaper and you can put Cd's on therer
