Is the pain we feel in our heart during heartbreak an actual physical pain, if not, where does it come from?

It's psychological.

Heartbreak is not pain in the normal sense which we feel as a result of damage or injury to the body, unfortunately, as this can be easier to deal with. You can treat the site of the injury, take an analgesic and put it out of your mind. Heartbreak due to loss, etc is much harder to alleviate. Sadly, in many cases and cliche though it is, time is the only healer.

Yes it is, it's very much a real pain and if your feeling really ill it may help to see your doctor. It does get easier though, stay possitive and take one day at a time. Good Luck Darling.

Good question. I don't think it's an actual pain, its the same as when we feel sad. Emotions can be very strong and sometimes you could think you're really in pain. I have absolutely no idea what actually happens but I'd like to know also?

It sure feels like a physical pain - twisted stomach, tight chest etc - I think it's a physical reaction to psychogical pain and stress.

the pain isn't in your heart, if it was you'd feel it as referred pain in your left arm the way someone experiencing a heart attack for the first time feels the pain...it's a feeling in your stomach, stress affects our stomachs & digestive system...maybe that's why they call it 'love sick' too?

if you've ever had your heart broken, you'll know what it feels like. its not so much as a physical pain as a physcological pain. it gets you right inside and you feel like you're truly lost. thats how i would describe it. and it does hurt. but you know, nothing what a night out with the girls cant fix!

severe emotional stress is wot causes heartbreak, i hve been through it, ppl who don't suffer it are called heartless but that cos they don't suffer anystress, i have done research into this and found that men who are bald at an early age have been through heartbreak, hence they know how to be more careing and also more verile.
