being a non-drinker myself, i'm curious why SOME drinkers (not all) see fit to drink as much as possible to get drunk. Do they really want to make fools of themselves like that? I doubt it. So What gives?

What a load of tripe.

I enjoy a drink when I go out, but I dont drink to get drunk, I drink because I like the taste and it helps me to lose my inhibitions - and not because I am 'conscious' of the people around me and not because someone has died nor because I want to forget something bad has happened, but because I WANT to - however, I have never been so drunk that I havent remember what I got up to the night before, nor have I have been so drunk that I wasnt in control of myself - (but even if I had - thats my look out).

I think the only time people make fools of themselves when they are drunk (or even sober) are when they become aggressive and/or verbally abusive - anything else (i.e. dancing on tables, on the podium, singing etc etc) is just fun (and who needs drink to do that - however, I think it can enhance your performance lol!!) and I dont think these people make fools of themselves - life is meant to be fun - what YOU find fun might not be someone elses idea of fun - live and let live, as long as no one is hurt then its alllllllll gooooood!!!

This is an excellent question. I have always marveled at people who know how good a time they had the night before because they can't remember anything about it the next day. Seems to be a paradox there that I just can't get my head around.

Let me say that my own consumption is very light and that I hold nothing against those who enjoy drink. But, I have never found myself in the position of purposefully trying to get drunk. It doesn't seem like fun and certainly is no answer to problems.

They drink to get an alternative experience to normal reality.

When you are really drunk you are overconfident and feel like you can do anything. Ive climbed huge buildings, scaffolding and statues when Ive been drunk, I´d never manage these feats when sober.

Its normally a faze when your a teenager till about 26 ish where people go over the top, after this people tend to be able to enjoy it more and drink in moderation.

i used to like a good drink but not anymore,am lucky i have 2-3 when i do go out now, in todays younger generation its just peer pressure and a stereotype thing, you are seen as a wimp and are embarrassed by your friends if you cant get drunk in the fastest way possible life should not be like that, alot of people are also addicted and more people see it as a way of releasing stress they see it as the more drunk i get the less i have to worry about the problem they have in real life, drink can change people into evil monsters, infact drink is evil and it should be controlled by the government, the health problems alone and the familys its destroyed

Many people are insecure and drink to take the edge off when they are in the company of others.. Drinking can be fun and an enjoybale thing to do - so long as you don't abuse it... I like to drink 4 to 6 beers and then stop.. Anything more that that, I start to get argumentative and want to talk politics or I start picking on people.. I do like myself alot better when I'm sober, but I can be very funny and more outgoing when I'm buzzing.

They do this to forget something bad that has happened e.g. somebody dieing in their life. When they are drunk they know about nothing that is happening, when they wake up the next morning they will forget about what happened the last night and why they got drunk and just lead a life...

Hope this answers your question

I think they like to drink or they cannot think of other better ways to cope and deal with their problems except drinking or maybe drinking is the easiest and fastest way to forget about their problems.
