map ratio is a characteristic of a map. for instance, if you draw a map at half scale, the map ratio is 2:1. this means that what you see on the ,map is half the size of the real thing. this information is similar to what is meant when the map says something like: "one inch = 10 miles".

Do you mean map scaling?, ex = 1:100

Let's take 1:100 for example.
It means if the distance of two places is 1 cm at the map, the real distance is 100 cm. So the real distance is 100 x bigger.
So if you want to draw a map simply multiply the real distance with the scale (1:100).
Or if you want to know the real distance simply divide them with the scale (1:100) or multiply it with 100.
