I see a lot of people with questions for what to get people who are hard to shop for. Well I think I am one of those people. Its not that I have everything and couldnt possibly use something else. Its more like its been a long hard year and somewhere throughout the year I have lost myself. I have forgotten what once interested me. Spent so much time thinking of others in my life I have no idea who I am anymore. My mom asked me the other day what I wanted and I honestly froze. I have no idea what to tell her. Friday when I was Christmas shopping for others I tried to look for myself. The only thing I could even come close to thinking was a digital camera. Thing is I got one last year. This one is better quality...but it seems a bit ridiculous to get another one a year later. I want to be able to at least point people in the right direction but I do not know what to even ask for. Everything comes back down to something for the kids or other people in my life. What should I want?

You guys are really ignorant. Just to let you know a little about me I am constantly giving. I volunteer about 20 hours a week and hundreds of dollars a year to different charities and other people. I have spent hundreds of dollars and hours already this month on helping others have a great Christmas. Now my loved ones want to do something for me-and they should be able to. But I do not know how to help them. You guys act like it is a sin to get something for Christmas. If you think as a single parent receiving no help and working over 40 hours a week I do not have struggles you are wrong. But at the same time I know I have been blessed with what I do have and give to others as much as possible. For once in my life I would like to think of myself I didnt realize that was SO incredibly wrong. I bet you have done it before. When was the last time you bought yourself something even as simple as a pair of shoes. For me it was over 8 months ago. Dont judge when you do not know.

Strange you would ask a question that only you can answer, but you can't answer it if you've lost yourself (as you put it).
Telling the others that their ignorant for trying to answer your question is ignorant in itself.
The only gift that will answer your question is time and only you can give it to yourself. Others can help give you the gift that it sounds like you need. I suggest and only suggest a small trip with some time off for your self. Staying local will not help you re-find yourself. You will only be drawn back to your daily life but a short trip to visit friends or a place you haven’t been before could do you some good.
Just my thoughts

Too much information. Good Grief..... If this is your biggest problem, not knowing what you want for Christmas..... then you're lucky indeed.
Don't know what you want? Boo hoo! Stop thinking about yourself and what someone can buy for you. Like a "better quality" digital camera!
You want to have a nice Christmas? Stop thinking about yourself and think about what you could do to make someone else's Christmas better or brighter. Volunteer at a homeless shelter serving dinner on Christmas. Hand out gifts to children at a shelter. See what other people are wishing for at Christmas who have nothing!
What should you "want"? Nothing. You should "want" nothing. If you don't need it to stay alive or to improve the quality of your life, then you don't need it.

I believe hapiness is the best gift for yourself. have time for yourself. Know yourself better sealed with love and hope around. If you already finished finding the REAL YOU.. It is the right time to know what you really like this christmas... oNly your precious heart could answer that. Look to your heart, everthing will be clear.

I never worry about what I want for Christmas. I am too wrapped up taking care of my wife and kids, and their easy to shop for. I refuse to get stressed out about shopping. I am always happy when someone takes the time to get me a gift, but is really not necessary.

You could always get a new camera and sell the other one which could fund lenses or other accessories for it.
Of my mother in law and her husband we have vouchers for Debenhams and then get something in the Boxing Day sales as that way we can see what we like or what we need / want.
Have you tried surfing the net for ideas that are different?

pick some tags off the giving tree, have donations made in your name to the local food banks or homeless shelters, donate food, blankets, etc to the local humane society, etc, etc, etc.
**addendum** i don't think i was being judgemental, i was giving you suggestions. obviously, you feel guilty about something, or you wouldn't have gone off like that. i don't feel it's wrong to think about yourself....you're the one who asked the question...if you don't want our apples, don't shake our trees. how should we, total strangers, know what you "should want?" we don't know you. and kudos to you in all the volunteerism and donations you make. i'm sure you've made a lot of ppl happy.
