In order to be hired by a government, NGO, or corporation as a translator, one must have ATA certification.
In order to qualify for ATA certification, one must have a degree or certificate from an ATA-approved program.

fluency in both languages - this means to degree level plus a post grad translation / interpretation qualification - there is a lot motre to interreting than knowing 2 or more languages.

Its not as funny as it sounds: most people will require you to demonstrate your proficiency in both languages, written and oral.
