I so agree with you!! But I don't think the KIDS are the problem - the problem is the PARENTS!
It's the parents that do not know how to be a parent and say NO to all these stupid things that kids don't need. I mean gosh, I see 6 year olds out there with more high tech cell phones than I have at 26. Why on earth do babies need cell phones? Are their parents not watching them or making sure they have adult supervision at all times?
Some parents seem to think that if their kids aren't keeping up with their friends, they're going to suffer or something. What ever happend to teaching our kids good values - such as material things aren't what matters, but family does? I think alot of parents would rather just ignore thier kids and throw them into their rooms with tvs, mp3s, cell phones, laptops, etc. These people shouldn't have become parents.

I also have an 8 year old daughter, as well as a 3 year old daughter. My 8 year old is the same way--she has always hated Barbies, she wants a Nintendo DS, cell phone or waterbed for Christmas. She refuses to let me pick her clothes out anymore. She stays on the internet (kid-friendly sites; I do monitor), talks on the phone with her best friend all of the time, etc. I was actually appalled the other night when the American Music Awards was on TV and The Pussycat Dolls performed--she knew all of the words to that song, got up and danced around slinky like a stripper. I am scared for the teenage years.

All the 8 year olds I know play with barbies among other things. If they get their hands on 17 magazine then the parents are to blame for that.

I played with dolls and barbies and stuff like that until I was twelve and I kind of grew out of the younger kid stage. I think the parents are moreso to blame than the kids. The parents want their kids to act older and be older so they can get out of the house quicker. My parents let me grow at my own pace, but a lot just raise their kids like little adults. Then there is also situations at home that make them feel older than they are. Like my friends' mom is a crackhead and her dad raised her. Her dad raised her as well as he could, but I think kids both need a father-figure and a mother-figure while growing up. Not just one, but both. They need a man and a woman, whether a boy or a girl, to look up to. It is also because people are having kids before marriage these days. People are just having sex because they want to...whether they love someone or not. And that is what hurts the child. Slutty teenagers are raising kids these days, and these children look up to their moms and begin copying off of them, and that is where they develop habits. I am not saying that all teenage moms are slutty teens, but I am saying that a lot of them are, and a lot of them just aren't mature enough to raise a baby. They think it is as easy as pie, but it really isn't. Since a lot of people aren't mature enough yet to raise a baby, they don't know how. I am not saying there is a right or wrong way to raise kids, but I am saying there are a lot of bad ways. Just think way back one-hundred years ago. People didn't dress with their boobs hanging out of their clothes and the kids were actually kids, and people actually waited until they were married to have kids. But as the generation went on, all of those morals slowly slipped away, and soon enough everybody will be having kids at thirteen. I think they need to make laws about this. Humanity as we know it is slowly slipping away.

It seems that Society either in UK or USA has caused kids to Grow UP = TOO FAST!
They take the Media for their Point Of View [POV] and often parents are disconnected as there appears to be Non-Communication of Essentials to the Children.

Children only do what they are allowed to do. At age 8, where are they getting the money to buy these items? Parents aren't raising their children, its the other way around.
