Good question! It is my understanding that the BCP works by stopping ovulation all together. It merely sets up a 'fake' hormonal cycle in the body, but no eggs mature and are released. There are those that say that missing one pill will not be dangerous, just don't miss several in a row, and those that freak out when it happens. I'm in the middle. I do not worry so much about one pill, but in a row and I am using a backup method.

No its doesn't regulate your period but on the contrary it can make it difficult to predict them at all with certainty. broadly speaking there are 2 types of pills, Combined oral contraceptive pill and Progesterone only pill or mini pill. Both these pills work differently. Combined pill work by altering your hormonal levels in body and fooling your body into thinking that you are already pregnant, technically there is no safe period as it has been shown that even delay of 24 hrs can make you ovulate.
while POP mini pill works locally on lining of womb and locally down below area to stop fertilisation or implantation, so that's why mini pill needs to be taken meticulously

during pill normal ovulation does not happen bcs its suppresed . take the missed pill when u remember, even if it means taking 2 pills in the same day, and complete pack as usual. No backup method is necessary.
.if u miss the pill for more than 12 hrs and missed 2,u should take the pill soon and Advise client to take 2 pills per day until u r back on schedule and to use a backup method if u have sex during the next 7 days. (If u have started bleeding, advise her to stop taking pills and start a new pack 7 days later.)
so while u r on pill all the day r same.nothing special with mid cycle.

The pill doesn't regulate ovulation it supresses it. For more info on exactly how the pill works see:
