Why would I want to live in East London? What does this city in South Africa have to offer? What's safety like, and work oppotunities?

I don't want this to become a place to dsicuss South Africa. I am myself a South African, and going back there from the UK because it's such a nice place, and the rest of the world has the same, as well as worse problems. The question was really just focussed on East London

Good question. I've often wondered myself, and even though I lived there for a few years, I've never really known. The only answer you've received so far that gives a satisfactory answer is that of Cakes. I think that's probably along the right lines. The "London" part is obvious with the British influence, but the "East" is problematic. East London is NOT east of London, Cakes, hoe's jou hart?! But possibly they added the "East" because it's on the east coast of South Africa. That's the best I can suggest.

Hiya,

East London is a very small town, After London, England its going to seem like a village. But then maybe thats exactly what you need to chill after hectic, too many people, Londinium!

A more medium sized town would be Durban or CT.

Don't bother with the place mate..... Try Cape Town... But even there is quite violent .. i lived there for 3 years.... i was shot at many times ..hit once ..!.... and had to shoot back on 5 occasions..
As for work .. i was lucky , I got a job in the local zoo and then went to the paul kruger national park..
All i can say is be "Steet Wise" and dont hesitate if your life is in danger....nuff said.
