It is about polititions play God on another issue to get or more likely keep votes. If you ask them why they will talk circles about protecting us from ourselves. The truth is the polititions are protecting the pharmisudical companies. If marijuana was regulated and sold leagaly it would it would put the smuggelers out of business and help to keep it from the younger kids that should be protected. I personaly know hundreds of people who have been smoking pot for 25-35 years. They go to work every day, pay there taxes and are better citizens than many of the people who preach against letting people live their own lives. As far as pot being a gateway drug, it is only a gateway drug because it is illeagal. People smoke a little and they like it or not, if they like it they start loosing respect for our laws because they realize everything they have been told is a lie. Law and order should not be based on lies! I do agree that driving and smoking is bad. But given a choice I would much rather be on the road with a hundred stoners than one drunk. If all of the government money wasted on enforcing marijuana laws was put into fighting the dangerous drugs the DEA might actually make a positive difference in drug use. In the mean time you have millions of people in this country with a lower respect for the law and find it difficult to get and keep a job because of smoking a joint after work. So the holyer than thou polititions and their supporters have us by the short hairs and will not give up their veiws because they want everyone to live the way they want us to live. Is this what a "free country" does to it's citizens? I think not. Sorry for the mis-spelling but spellcheck isn't working today. And I wasn't a very good speller long before the first puff of smoke!

Well, I can't ever imagine myself using weed, firstly because it would be unhealthy for me (since I don't have cancer), and secondly because it's not very popular in my country, and thirdly: I don't have any idea what so ever where I could ever get a hold of some, I have never met anyone who smoked weed or heard about anyone around here who does. And since I won't start because of peer pressure (like you did. Yes, you did. If you hadn't know anyone who smoked, would you have tried it?) it's not very likely I'll ever start. You make some interesting points. However I think the real question should be: Why is weed illegal when Alcohol and cigarettes aren't? All three can be harmful not only to yourself, but to the people around you. But I think the real reason is: it can lead to heavier drugs. Drugs that can destroy your entire life. Because if you start with one drug, why not try another one? When you don't get a kick out of weed, off to the next one. It can get really bad. And sure, you can become an alcoholic if you drink too much, but you usually have to be pretty depressed to start drinking that much to begin with. With drugs you might only need to try it once, for fun, and then you're hooked. Drugs destroy lives much more rapidly than alcohol. And don't forget, there are rules for drinking as well!

I used to think just like you that POT smoking wasn't addictive! I started with a little puff here and there at age 16 then went full blown after that----I stopped cold turkey when I was almost 40. I couldn't go a day w/o it's effects----I never knew after all those years the clouded perspective I had lived in for so many years. It took me about a year and a half to put myself together and get my life back! If any one tells you it's not addictive they're fooling themselves.
I do believe though it should be legalized as a medicinal drug. It's perfect for HIV/AIDS and also Cancer patients. It kills the nausea that comes from thoses illnesses. It also helps with pain and stomach cramps created by chemo therapy.
I do not believe it should be legalized just to sit around toking each night and getting the muchies and eating ones self into a fat frenzy!
People who are arrested for it's uses hopefully have good lawyers ....you are right when you ask about murder and possession----we're lead to believe in JUSTICE----and the LAW but where is the justice when you arrest a person for having less than a 1/8th of an ounce and you sentence that person to 5 years in jail-----and in this jail cell is a person who committed a rape on a young teen and he is out in 5 months? HMMMMMMMMM

There will always be humanity and everybody needs to relax People decide to use marijuana for recreational reasons but it is when the people decided to grow stronger strains of the garden variety marijuana there is a problem ,it better to stay with natures own strain.Because of the goverment not legalizing marijuana the tide of junkies that use needles have converged into every part of society ,No powder to the people .If marijuana was free to aquire or grow there would not be the risk of powder chemical metal illness.More people die from government approved pain killers and medication than any other drugs .Remember the all mighty dollar comes first before the health of a humanbeing .Marijuana can not kill but like everything taken in moderation .1970's people where people having fun but do not drug and drive its the same as drink driving Give out free marijuana and you will destroy the powder .meth, crack, smack and cokecaine forever .

it real simple the gov. can't regulate weed so they can get the tax money from it. if you get a few seeds you would grow your own and cut the gov. out of the taxes. that's why seeds for tobacco are so high and you have to have certification papers to buy the seeds. there is the answer i have to you Q. ... and for the other comments drinking is illegal for teens, driving under the influence is illegal at any age, and i know of several 6 figure income people that have smoked weed. so the laws are on the books they would work the same for weed as they do for drinking . and what you do with your life has more to do with weather you want to get off your rear and do something with your life or sit there and be a bum. and if you do a Little studying on weed you will find that weed has been proven to have medical benefits. glaucoma and cancer just to name 2 . and what good did it do for our ancestors to fight and die for our freedom if we are going to let big brother (government ) take all our rights away one by one? you or i may not like weed , drinking , smoking cigarettes , guns or something else but it should be our right to make that choice, it may be something you don't like today but one day it will be something you do like keep giving up your rights and soon you wont have any.

You're right... no one ever HAS died from smoking a joint.
Other things no one has ever died from:
Falling - it's the immediate stop which kills you.
Gun - guns don't kill, it's the tiny piece of gun-powered filled metal & the ill-intended person pulling the trigger.
Old age - something vital fails, youy don't just get to a certain age and that's it.
Cigarettes - the monoxide-filled smoke, with lethal nicotine and 150 other substances of which the tobacco company doesn't exactly know everything about does.
I hope you get my point. The results of smoking drugs can be extremely deadly to the smoker and others (as stated above.)

Many others HAD died and are dying everyday as the consequence of people who smoke weed. The numbers of the teenagers, for example, who were driving the car while being stoned and as the result killed themselves and other drivers on the road will astonish you. I don't even talk about the number of crimes such as murders, rapes, and plain deadly accidents at work that were done under the influence of weed.
You must be stoned yourself right now to be asking such a stupid question like "no one has ever died from smoking weed"/

Well in a world where our Politically Correct Overlords want to take away our choice to smoke a cigarette, what chance does weed have? Politicians are folks who genuinely believe they are better than you and as such have the right to tell you what you can and cannot smoke. See, they are better than you even at living your own life. They want to take the horrible burden of making your own desicions and mistakes from your weary shoulders. Not only must we accept their loving guidance, we must thank them for it.
Happy 1984.

A person driving while high could certainly die in an accident they caused. A person who falls asleep with a joint could burn their house down and kill themselves and/or others. Those actions sound pretty harmful to me, and would affect more than just the person smoking the weed.

I work with troubled homeless teens and most have drug and alcohol problems and mental health problems. The mixture of marijuana and mental health problems can lead to self harming and suicide, aggression and violent behaviours. I have personally seen this. Not so long ago, I would have agreed with you that marijuana is harmless.
