yes its possible, and I think its most likely to be someone you were friends with in your teens. But not everyone has that, and things can change. If your best friend moves to Australia or something, you still know you could always turn up on her doorstep if you were in trouble, but its just not practical. You also need different friends for different reasons - the one who goes to concerts with you, the one who likes shopping, the one who understands how much you miss your old dog etc. If you've got a small group of good friends but no single best friend I would say you're doing more than OK.

I went to school with a friends from the age of 12 and we are still good mates even though i moved 100 miles away.

We meet up on a regular basis for nights out, family get togethers, etc and talk on the phone regulally.
It's maybe a little diffrent for guys where we don't spend every day on the phone but here knows where i am and we always have loads to talk about when we get together.

We're both 42 now, so that's going on 30 years!

Yup I have three, they are the best friends a girl can ask for. Yeah sure they are bastards some times ( once in a while) but it feels great that no matter what we are always going to be there for each other. We've been friends since we were seven and although we are going to schools all around the world ( for two years now!) we still e-mail and call each other every weekend ( conference calls). They are rare and hard to find, you may or may ot find one it depends on fate I guess.

I think yes. Although... I do not have a person like that in my life!! I think because when I was growing up, I spent more time alone. But now i am older, I have come to value what it means to have a good friend, or friends. It really does mean alot. I am hoping that "the one" for me will be my best friend for life.. ")

Love

Sorry to disagree with everyone but I'm not so sure anymore.
I had a friend, Sarah, who I thought would be my friend forever. We went to school together, got mugged together, went out together. We went through every growing up experience together. We'd had our arguments but we could always get through them.

It all changed when I got engaged and fell pregnant. She thought I was making the biggest mistake of my life. We were also living together and so I had to move out obviously and although I gave notice and paid up until that point, it caused a big rift coz I was disrupting her (I stayed there till I was 5 months pregnant though!).

So anyway, after 16yrs of friendship, she turned her back on me and hasn't wanted anything to do with me since.

My point is, we go through different life experiences at different points and it can be unrealistic to think that you are going to want to share it with each other or understand etc.

Either that, or maybe I just didn't have a good friend!

Certainly. I met mine in college and have never felt a bond with someone like that ever...and I've met quite a good amount of people. I don't generally like that terminology 'best friend,' but it's very true with her. We're quite lucky to have found one another!

I haven't spoken to her in about 5 months now, but that doesn't mean I don't think about her, and I know she thinks about me. And the best part is I know that we will pick up right where we left off once we reunite. Love that gal.

I have been friends with my best friend since we met at primary school. We were 5 years old and he is now 35 and I am 34. I could not ever imagine him not being my friend, even though he is an *** sometimes! I hope we will stay friends until we are having zimmer frame races! We certainly plan to!
