I've heard that it's not safe to travel outside of your hotel complex in Jamaica - how true is this? Is it safe as I would love to go there?

Jamaica is as safe as you make it.
Certain areas are safer then others.
I would recomend not venturing to far off the beaten Path unless you are in a group.
I have been to Jamaice several times and will be there for New years eve this year as well.
Jamaica is a blast and can be the best time of your life.
Just use common sense when out walking around. keep your eyes open.

Jamaica can be a very safe place. As long as you watch yourself just like any other place you travel to. Just act like you've been there before. With one exception, forget about going to Kingston. Cab drivers most likely wont even take you there. Other than that, go ahead and have a great time! Personally, I highly suggest Negril, you wont be disappointed.
Another helpful hint, get a tan before you go. No, not to look cool or to prevent sunburn. I have found that as the week went on, and the tanner i got, the less hassle I got for buying stuff. They are smart people. If youre white as a ghost, they know you've just arrived and throw every sales pitch at you. If you're tan, you've been there a few days and have already heard it all and they dont bother you as much. Whatever the case may be, at least be nice and show respect. A lot of people hate the hassle all of the time. But it is a poor country in general and that is how most of them make their money. Don't knock them for it. At the very least, acknowledge them and say no thanks.

I've been several times and the only problem I have had is coming home! Stay away from the big hotels. Get a little cabin for a fraction of the price and hang out with the locals! Catch a few sound systems dances, travel through the hills, reason with some rastas, smoke some good ganja, play some soccer, drink up the Guinness, then scrape up some more money to go back as soon as you can.

I settle for as real with the previous positioned up. Jamaica is a ideas-blowing concern to journey, yet in basic terms like various different city on earth, you may desire to contemplate of your atmosphere. As for a quiet place to reax and write, i could likely propose Montego Bay. i've got with the aid of no ability been to Negril, so i'm not sure what which you would be able to anticipate there. nonetheless, I even have been to Montego Bay and desperate it particularly relaxing and non violent at nighttime time. Granted, in accordance with what day of the week you return and forth there is likewise greater persons out interior the line than well-known as a results of events and stuff, whether entire, I located it somewhat stress-unfastened. it somewhat is somewhat helpful to be sure out the Gloucestshire inn. this is located right now around the line from Dr. Cove's coastline, and the charges are stunning first value. The rooms are fantastic and the service is additionally good. The inn constructive properties an rather friendly exterior balcony that I enjoyed sitting on and watching the image voltaic upward thrust and set over the sea. in basic terms evaluate: be sure you're attentive to your atmosphere continuously, such as you'll be on your fatherland, and journey your self! reliable travels!

Was there in May 2006. Stayed at the beautiful Royal Plantation Resort in Ocho Rios. Although the resort was nice we didn't leave it all week. Will probably never go back to Jamaica again. THere are so many other nicer islands where you do not need to fear for your safety.

Whats the point in going abroad to stay inside a hotel complex?? Wowsers, how boring. If you can speak to someone down there who you judge to be trustworthy they can show u around and u will see parts of Jamaica you wouldnt otherwise perhaps.

Jamaica is as safe as any other country it has its good and bad parts. When out and about it ANY new country keep ur wits about u and use common sense, if it doesnt seem like a good idea it probably isnt and it is better to be safe then sorry. Crime rate isnt as high as ppl make out, the majority does go down in Kingston it seems but if ur worried just avoid there.

The mountains are beautiful, the beaches are. Visit places like Green Grotto Cave and Rose Hall and Devon House. I dont know how but if you could try and drive through Fern Gully,my my it is beautuful!!! I loved it. I used to live in Jamaica I only got to drive through Fern Gully once and I thought it looked great, you might not but hey.

Well now what else can I say? Ask ppl where is good to visit. I stay inbetween Negril and Montego Bay as a resident, as a tourist if you prefer beaches and tranquility try Negril, if you love Music and dances try MoBay. I staye din a hotel in Ochi ?(Ocho Rios) once Dunns River Falls is there. Ochi is cool but a bit commercialized for me....

I wont rant too much you can emailme if u want or message I am very willing to helpout about Jamaica, and as I live in England born and Grown I have unbiased views on JA I can give you the low down just click on my avatar u see my email.

Alternatively check out this site I joine long time ago everythingjamaican.com and ask them what JA is like you have alot of Canadians and Americans who travel down who can give you a proper view on what Jamaica is like. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your trip!! God bless ya!
