john wayne IS the man! he will never be surpassed in the genre. he did so many great films, stagecoach, el dorado, rio lobo, mcclintock, big jake (my fave!), true grit, rooster cogburn, the shootist, the war wagon, the sons of katie elder ........just to name a few. and they still stand the test of time proving a great simple story doesn't need special effects to capture the audience.
