I had a friend try hypnosis for smoking. I believe that if you believe in anything strongly enough, then it will work for you. This friend of mine believed that her mind was stronger than the man planting the seed of hypnosis, so she was smoking again within days.
I have seen a hypnotist make people eat raw onions (they thought they were eating peaches)!
So hypnosis does work if you believe or allow it too.
I personally wouldn't use this method to forget. There are some wonderful practioners out there who use Thought Feild Therapy or Emotion Free Technique which actually get to the root of the emotion or feeling you are having. I would recomened you seek someone like this out.
Try www.emofree.com/
good luck

Some of the answers that have been printed here are totally outrageous and some contain flat lies.I have been practicing hypnosis for over 25 years and I can assure you that it is one of the safest, most effective and inexpensive forms of therapy available. You really have to wonder why people run around claiming that it causes brain damage, which of course would make its practice illegal, when it fact there is absolutely no evidence to support such a flat lie.In reference to your question about whether you should use hypnosis to forget a traumatic incident you witnessed, the answer is yes if you are suffering from or experiencing symptoms such as stress or flashbacks because of the incident.Hypnotherapy is the only therapy available that can be used to first decrease the harm that traumatic memories create and then if desired, cause the memory to disappear completely.

Oh no! please don't. Any benefactor of urs would say no to this. I have never done this myself, or done this to myself, but being experienced in this subject, i can just say that hypnotism has its side effects. And I'm sure u wouldn't want ur brains to be damaged permanently. You'll have to make ur mind strong. Tell urself that whatever has happenedhas happened and u can't just turn around and correct it. U'll have to live on with the fact that it has happenend and move on... hypnotism to make u forget will be like running away from it or suicide......... Lifes beautiful, enjoy it.... :-)

Who we are as individuals is a matter of several factors. What we have learned as well as what we have experienced.
If we forget all the bad things we also forget the ways we used to cope with them that made us stronger in the long term.
My Grandmother always used to say" God doesnt give us more than we are capable of handling. "

I would recommend grief counceling of just talking to someone honestly about your experiences that trouble you. In time, we all forget the bad things.

Hypnosis is not for forgetting, it is for remembering and working through a problem.

No, I don't think you should. Some things we have to remember even though we don't want to. Hypnotism, has it's sideeffects, it might damage your brain, you shouldn't do it.
