Be careful with this attitude. In the U.S., it's led to the dismantling of our industrial infrastructure, the degradation of education, mind-boggling national debt and an expensive, inefficient medical system that only works well for the very rich. Part of being a member of a functioning society means that you pay your share to keep it from being a crime and illness infested hell-hole. Stop griping and just make sure you elect folks who will spend the money on keeping up the country rather than on political gain.

Unfortunately you are presumably an honest, hard working responsible person who has given positive input into the country. WRONG!! If you had learnt to milk the system, cheated and signed on whilst working on the side, claimed benefit for non existent family members and said you had a bad back and couldn't work.....you would be much better off. SORRY IT'S TOO LATE TO START NOW, you'll just have to keep looking after those who know how to milk everything. Until the government change their policy then you and alot of others will continue to support those who have no intention of ever working. Why should they? (Their words not mine)
I returned to the UK after living abroad for some years, and went to the unemployment office to sign on TO GET A JOB!! They immediately asked if I needed an interpreter (no thanks I'm British) refused to give me unemployment benefit (which I stated I wasn't there for and that I WAS ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR A JOB believe it or not) and told me to produce proof of trying to get a job.....I told them to shove their help, found my own job, and with the help of the Citizens Advice Bureau appealed and won 500.00. This was a principal thing not the case of wanting their money, it was just to prove a point.

So go and live in Iraq or Lebanon or Zimbabwe. You will then find out why. When people have no money or have problems in their lives, a decent society helps them. So stand up like a man and pay your taxes. How did you get your money in the first place? Did you have help? Of course you did. I expect the state provided a school, NHS, university, infrastructure etc. I too have worked all my life, but I am thankful for having been brought up in a civilised society.

this comes from the welfare state that was started in about 1918, but formally formed after WWII.
The Liberal and, later, Labour governments thought that it would be a great idea to support those that could not earn/work by those that could.
If you are not liking the situation, then, you need to vote for a party that does not propose higher taxes in the next general election.

i am readin a lot of anti immigrant sentiments
from the answers; true some immigrants dont pull their weight
but we hav to remember some rich ppl dont
either--when big companies get so called tax incentives
what u hav in essence is welfare for the rich.
despite the civilized facade most ppl are predatory in nature;
they will take advantag when they could. when we
evolve more truly spiritually things will look up

Because he knows you will pay up as others have stopped paying. But don't worry God will favour you in the end not the tax evaders.
