Some programs have the option to be in the systray on their menu. You just kinda have to look for it. One other thing you can try, Right click the start button, goto Properties, Click on the Taskbar option and Customize in the bottom right corner. From there you can choose what is on the systray and whether to hide, show, etc.

Please go to Start > Run > Type MSCONFIG and click ok.
Go to Startup tab, see if you see those old programs that you wanted to be loaded on the system tray. if yes, then make sure checkbox against them are checked. if not then check them.

If they are not listed in the Startup tab then close that window.
Go to the programs folder that you wanted to load in the system tray. Right click on that and choose to create shortcut. A shortcut for the program will be created. Cut that shortcut and paste it in the Start > All Programs > Startup folder. Restart your computer Next time you will find that in the system tray.

try working antivirus scans. that's favourite that Vista is a slower op gadget, i might improve, yet that may no longer be an decision. If the AV test does no longer artwork, try a clean setting up, returned up your substantial records...that's what i might do besides.
