I live in a rented apartment. The management has lately been very inefficient in responding to work orders. My dishwasher has been out of commission for one week and I have been doing my dishes manually. The maintenance person checked my dishwasher and has ordered a new part. I was given false assurances that the matter will be taken care of in a day or two. It is almost a week now and I had to spent Thanksgiving doing all the dishes by hand.

Am I entitled for a one time rent deduction for the inconvenience and if so, what is a reasonable amount?

Rent reduction for one week? If you could, which I doubt, the amount would be so small it probably would be pennies off your rent and wouldn't be worth the hassle with your landlord. Check your lease. If you feel compelled to do it, then go for it. But my guess is you would only be disappointed. I am wondering how you would calculate such a deduction.

Unless this is part of you less agreement then your in the clear, other wise you just got shot down. You see, you still had a way to do your dishes. Sorry

If it's in your contract I reckon you could. My old landlord was dodgy like that alot of the time, he never would have given me a rent reduction though. There should be some kind of compensation, and a reduction to the rent would be logical. good luck!

DISH PAN HANDS- YOU SHOULD HAVE USED PAPERPLATES WITH PLASTIC SILVERWARE- DUH!! I HIGHLY FREAKING DOUBT IT, YOUR LUCKY TO HAVE SUCH AN APPLIANCE. RENTING LIKE YOU ARE, TRY PAINTING THE WHOLE ENTIRE COMPLEX, AND ASK IF YOU COULD BE ABLE TO SKIP [ 1 MONTH ] DECEMBERS RENT SO YOU COULD BUY YOUR KIDS X-MAS PRESENTS AND BE TOLD BUY THE SLUMLORD, "YOU CAN CATCH IT UP COME TAX TIME", BEEN HERE AND DOING THAT. SO CONSIDER YOUR WRINKLEY FINGERS A BLESSING AND BE THANKFUL YOU WON'T HAVE TO DO IT AT X-MAS TOO.
