Yes, as a teen myself I have noticed that people don't bother to spell correctly very much anymore. People are just trying to hit as few keys as possible but still get their message across. I do not see why it is so painful to type out the entire word or to retype a misspelled word. Even on yahoo answers, the least used tool is the spell check. I just do not understand why people use slang and abbreviations to save just a few keystrokes.

Times have changed and so has the oppressive system of insisting that people spell words as they are spelled in "dictionaries". These days the most important thing is that people feel good about themselves and phoenetic approximations of the "correct" spelling are sufficient.

sadly what you tell is 100% true since it is SMS everywhere .. the generation of short words..but the fact is that until you have the cellular phone.. your children will be very good at spellings ..but once they have it within their palm..their knowledge of spelling is lost and so is their future... god save these kids from cellularnapping!

wat yoo meen? LOL Yes I have, I always type and text fully but my friends spelling seems to be deteriorating, I am known as the GRAMMAR AM and friends ask me how to spell, my spelling used to be absolutely atrocious, but now I think it is improving...
But yes a definite change in children's spelling... *Please say none of this is spelt incorrectly LMAO*

We use shortcuts so we can type messages faster. It is just easier that way.
