I am curious if the majority of people whom are gay are that way because of their biological makeup ? I do know alot of people choose the lifestyle for personal reasons but i do believe that the majority of gays and lesbians live that lifestyle because it is truly how they feel inside . Such as men feeling like women and women like men . I know many feel it at a very young age and it is only evident within a persons actions how they are inside and how they see themselves to be as a person. Some choose to stay in the body they were given however the lifestyle and feelings still exist regardless of what the body is .

Scientific studies have shown a biological basis for homosexuality.

Nope it hasn't been proved, nor disproved for that matter.
Heterosexuality hasn't been proved or disproved either.

WOW, come to think of it, neither has handedness!

It's simply ASSUMED that handedness is genetic simply because there are too many factors pointing to it being genetic in origin.
Just as homosexuality has.

The mere fact that homosexuals are in every human society, culture, race, religious sect, gender, socio-economic and education level...and that historically there has never been a time in human history when homosexuals did not exist; the fact that most mammals and birds that have been studied show homosexual tendencies within species; the fact that most homosexuals all admit that they have always "somehow just known they were gay" ...

This all points to a genetic link of some sort.

Whether or not it will ever been actually found or not is really irrelevant.

1) No, it has not been scientifically proven that homosexuality is biologically related, as in genes. There have been interesting studies done about the probability of genetically identical twins separated at birth and raised in different environments both being gay or both being straight, and I read one nifty study about gay male response to male pheremones versus female pheremones, but there is aboslutely nothing conclusive.

2) Sexual orientation is different than gender! I don't know how much I can stress this. You say "Such as men feeling like women and women like men.". But note- if a man feels like a woman inside, or a woman feels like a man inside, these people are TRANSGENDER. If they use surgery and hormones to change their body and become the other sex, they are TRANSSEXUALS. Most gay people are completely happy being the gender and sex they were born, and happen to love that same sex and gender- not that they wish they were the other but choose to stay as they are.

An example to help you understand- there are many women who feel like they want to be men, but are attracted to men. So before they change their bodies, they are 'straight'; afterwards, they are 'gay'. Similarly, there are men who transition to become women and still love women- making them lesbian transwomen. Just because a good number of transsexuals are 'gay' pre-transition and 'straight' post-transition does not mean that all gay people are just transsexuals who don't want to take the plunge.

Again, sexual orientation IS NOT the same as gender identity!

Scientifically proven, hmm.....
Most of my friends that are gay would tell you that they doubt that day will ever happen in their lifetime, because they feel that there are too many inherent pressures to keep that "would be evidence" unveiled.
I, having worked as a Chef in San Francisco, became friends with so many gay & Lesbians, and out of all of them, only one told me, that he truely never felt homosexual feelings until he became 20 yrs. old. ALL the others said they always felt it, most attempted to hide it until they felt comfortable enough to come out. I am all about respecting peoples beleifs (so long as they're not hurting anyone, which homosexuallity does' nt do) so if the person beleives he/she was born like that, works for me!
Would they really want to put themselvesw through all the bashing, and predjudice and general lack of respect by choice?
Some of the best friends I have ever had have been gay people, I wish more people had the open mind to experience the warmth and friendships I've had...

I'm not really interested in whether it is ever scientifically proven, because I know I was born this way and did not make a choice at any point.
But it has nothing to do with 'feeling like a woman', as Cando pointed out. Those are completely separate issues. I am a man all the way through, and I'm happy being a man, and even happier when I'm with another man.

The FACT is that research is just now begining in this area of research. There are no facts to lay on the table and say "this plus that makes someone gay"

BUT old theories that enviroment, traumatic events, sexual abuse, or choice are being dismissed pretty quickly as more and more gay people are "out" and refute those as reasons. Those that do not like gay people willuse those theories to justify their actions in discrimination.

Proof is yet to be had, and may be years down the road. Like all scientific research, there will be dead end streets. My GUESS is that its biological in origin, but probably not a "gay gene" per se, possibly a mechanism in our dna that is not triggered in early childhood development.

I do not need science to prove that I was born gay. When I was 4 years old I already felt different. Once I was brought by my parents to a basketball game in my hometowns sports center. I could not help notice one basketball player. For the entire game I was looking at him and didnt know why. Since then I could not forget that incident because it was really strange. I did not know if what I was doing was wrong or right. I just felt it. It was only when I was in high school that I realized I had a crush on that player.

But I do really hope that scientists can prove once and for all in paper that homosexuality can start at birth. This will then force Christian fundamentalists and Catholics to rethink their position against homosexuality.

Nope, there was a rumor that it was due to a hormonal imbalance but that amounted to little more than a lot of empty talk. It was also rumored that lesbians were formed by too much testosterone in the mother's bloodstream at the time of the pregnancy but that turned out to be bull too.

Noone knows exactly what's up but for people who are truly homosexual it isn't a choice made consciously.

something that has been so persecuted and suppressed over the centuries still flourishes in every society, even where it is never talked about, is proof enough for me. However, biologists have proven over and over again that homosexuality exists throughout the animal kingdom, some notable examples are certain monkeys and penguins.
