Everyone I know takes off about 1 to 2 weeks before their due date.

The week before you give birth or when your doc tells you to.
I would give him a written statement right now saying that some time in the next 10 months you will be taking FMLA (if you are in the US) or maternity leave. He cannot say he did not have ample warning. For him to expect and exact date out of you at this time is ridiculous! At any time, it's just ridiculous! You have no way of knowing if (doG forbid!) something is going to necessitate you leaving before you say you will, or if you will be able to stay longer than you thought.

Congratulations!

You should work as long as you possibly can, depending on of course what kind of job you have. Also, if the doctor says everything is going okay and you are having a normal pregnancy. It is always better to have more maternity leave after the baby, than to use it up before.

Depends on your job and pregnancy if all is going well I would work as long as possible and spend as much of your maternity leave with baby as possible. I worked up until the day before I delivered. I was glad I did, no burning maternitly leave waiting for baby.

It depends on how long of a maternaty leave you get. If you get all you want I would give them notice at 28 weeks. They can't really make you work if your in labor.
