Sorry that you feel this way. Remember that what you say counts, and how you say it is what matters. You may consult with a speech therapist. I've enclosed a search on Yahoo that has some interesting results. By gaining some knowledge on the subject may give you more confidence. Take care.

There's an old trick people used to use when trying to speak more clearly and distinctly, and that was to put two marbles in your mouth before speaking. You would need to practice this a bit first, but the marbles force you top slow down and think about what you are saying and the act of saying it at the time you are speaking rather than beforehand.

Try it, and you'll see it's not as crazy as it sounds.

Whenever we have habits, in order to break them we have to have a concentrated effort on doing so. The best way to concentrate on breaking a habit is to have constant reminders to ourselves. For example: You could buy a ring that you wear everyday and is in plain view and whenever you see it you remind yourself that you will speak more slowly. Or you can write the word "slow" on your finger. Also, another way to really see if we are changing a habit is to keep track of how often we do something. For example: Everyday carry around a notepad with you in your back pocket (a little one) and write down when you spoke slowly and when you spoke too quickly. Just the act of writing it down will help you to remember to do it more slowly AND will show you if you're improving. It's just one more way of reinforcing the idea of how to break a bad habit.

You might think about taking a class on public speaking. It would be a beginning. The professors would be helpful, its less expensive than therapy. Think about it!
