I know someone who was in a car accident about 2&1/2 years ago & had complications. Remembers most everything before 11 or 12 years ago well enough with a few gaps here and there (probably remembers as well as anyone else does in their life from 12+ years ago).
But still can't remember anything from 11 or 12 years ago to 2&1/2 years ago.
The fortunate thing: can't remember what's been forgotten.
Family members and friends have tried to help by showing photos or telling stories but it's just not there. None of us realized how much wasn't remembered until this past Summer -- then had to admit not remembering anything at all between 11-12 years ago to 2&1/2 years ago (when woke up in the hospital).
Remembers which photos have been seen and which stories have been heard over the last 2&1/2 years but there's no memory of the actual person or event, and there's no emotion at all attached to the photos/people/events.

The good part is u don't remember what u forgot. That would be funny if it wasn't so sad.
No I've never had amnesia. I forgot where I was and what I was doing when I woke up on the floor or ground with a concussion a couple of times but always remembered everything before I got up.

Yes, After a serious auto accident. The weeks and even months following are pretty sketchy. There was some longer term effects to my memory, alot due to medications, some due to brain trauma, but I am about 97% back to normal now! 5& 1/2 yrs later

Yes, I was told that I had amnesia for 16 hours after a car accident. I had brain swelling. Luckily, I came out of it OK. I only have very sketchy memories of it. I didn't know my name and couldn't sign any papers. I didn't know phone numbers or peoples names for longer than that. It was very scary!
