No they can not tell by feeling your tummy. The reason they have asked you to come back in two weeks is that in that time the baby will have grown a stronger heartbeat and the may be able to detect it by then. I advise that if the bleeding gets any worst or pains become aparent then you go straight to hospital. Did they do blood test when you were examined. I recently went into hospital with a small bleed and a small amount of pain. I was 5 weeks pregnant so they wouldnt do a scan i they fel;t it would stress me out if they couldnt find the heart beat (like i wasnt anyway). Four days later i was rushed to hospital with extreme pain and heavy bleeding. I had a complete miscarriage. The first time i went to hospital they done blood tests and then done a second lot when i was taken in again. They confirmed that my hcg level had dropped (hormone level) so confirmed a miscarriage. The nurse told me that they have to do two blood tests at least 48 hours apart before they can confirm a miscarriage is taken place. It has left me devastated as it is my 3rd miscarriage. I can imagine how you feel now two weeks is a long time to wait worrying. If in any doubt go straight to accident and emergancies please. Best of luck and let us know everything is ok. You are in my thoughts x

I had a similar experience to this myself, I was bleeding, in my first trimester when the doc felt my tummy to tell me that he could feel my uterus was small which wasnt a good sign , this is just in my experience.
I think by feeling your tummy they can feel the uterus and know if its larger than it should be, which indicates your pregnant. However Im afraid it seems like a certain amount of guess work is involved in that.
Please stay positive as at my 11 wk scan they could tell me that they were quite sure I was miscarring, in your case they can see a sac and this is good news. Obviously they want you to go back when there may be more to see.
Get your feet up and rest.
I reallly hope everything goes well for you.

Obviously he is undecided, and because the baby is like a pea it can be difficult for them to spot it... If you are worried go back to your GP or midwife.
