What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. It makes me cry because it's really heartfelt and reminds me of better days. People are becoming less tolerant of others in the world today and it makes me sad.

It's not that simple. Some emotions are way too complex to sort into "negative" and "positive." Take memories of a loved one who has died, for example. For a really good example. Or being in peril and rescued by a hero. The peril is bad, the rescue good. Music evokes memories almost as effortlessly as scent does. And if you happen to be burning the same incense at the time you hear the song that was so important long ago . . . neither negative nor positive, but both: good that I had the chance to love him while he lived; bad that I cannot touch him anymore.

Cat's in the Cradle by Ugly Kid Joe....As I have reasoned out before, I grew up without a father (he died when I was four). When I listen to this song, I always wish my dad's looking down on me, saying that he's proud of me for what I have accomplished in life.

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man on the moon.
"When you comin' home?"
"Son, I don't know when.
We'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."

Songs like this:

Another Day In Paradise

She calls out to the man on the street
"Sir, can you help me?
It's cold and I've nowhere to sleep,
Is there somewhere you can tell me?"
He walks on, doesn't look back
He pretends he can't hear her
Starts to whistle as he crosses the street
Seems embarrassed to be there
Oh think twice, it's another day for
You and me in paradise
Oh think twice, it's just another day for you,
You and me in paradise
She calls out to the man on the street
He can see she's been crying
She's got blisters on the soles of her feet
Can't walk but she's trying
Oh think twice...
Oh lord, is there nothing more anybody can do
Oh lord, there must be something you can say
You can tell from the lines on her face
You can see that she's been there
Probably been moved on from every place
'Cos she didn't fit in there
Oh think twice...

In the Air Tonight - Phil Collins. Sad but motivates me. It's the soundtrack of my life right now... It connects Iraq to home.

"I'll Leave This World Loving You" by Ricky Van Shelton.
My husband sang that to me while we were dancing to it.
We were together five years and he died one week short of our first anniversary.
He died Nov.24,1998, Eight years ago last Friday.
I know he did leave this world loving me, just like he said he would.
I miss him still and when I hear that song it takes me back to that dance.
