It's an urban myth. There's no way you can tell a baby's gender without using a scan or waiting til it comes out.
It doesn't matter if the mother craves coal and soap flakes, wants sweet or savory food, or where the bump is.

If that was true then I SHOULD have had a boy (certainly had enough people telling me I was going to, even strangers) but I had a girl. It's a myth. It's not the gender of the baby but the woman's body type that determines this I think.
See, people actually believe this (answerer #1 says it's true!) but it isnt!! You might as well try the spoon/fork test. Have you heard this one? Some one puts a spoon on one chair, fork on the other. They're covered so the mother to be can't see which is which. She chooses a chair to sit down on, and I dont remember what gender is repres. by what cutlery but for example if you choose the chair with the spoon you are going to have a girl and the fork is for a boy. Some swear by this!!

I believe this is an urban myth. There is some truth to it, but more often than not, babies lie differently with each pregnancy you have. HOWEVER both my sisters will tell you otherwise. My younger sister carried on the sides and had a girl, and my older carried to the front and had a boy.
Something else fun to try is take a metal ring and a piece of long hair, preferably the mothers, and tie the ring to it. On females it will go side to side and on men it will go in circles. Test it by doing it over both your palm and then your husbands. Then hold the hair with the ring tied to the end over your belly and there you go. Its pretty creepy because Ive tried it with just the palms and both my sisters have done it with their babies and been right. Plus its fun to predict and then get the suprise later to see if you were correct!

No thats rubbish. I'm expecting a little boy (confirmed by several scans) and my bump is all to the sides. Plus my bump is not "pointed", his heartbeat is not "low", and the wedding ring trick said it was a girl! And I crave sweet AND savoury foods.
Anything other than an ultrasound scan to determine baby's sex is rubbish, crap, urban myth and old wives tales. Come on people, this is 2006!

This is definitely false. If this was true then my son would be a girl. He was always laying on my side. It looks like I had a tumor attached to my ribcage.
Every baby is different. There is NO scientific way to find out the sex of your baby 100% without having fluid from the sac drawn out and tested. Ultrasound is only 80% accurate.

Urban myth :-) The shape of the pregnant abdomen depends on a lot of things, such as how the baby is lying, how firm the woman's abdominal muscles are, etc.
The only ways to tell are ultrasound or analysis of the baby's genetic makeup (such as amnicentesis).

Urban myth, but one with a 50% chance of being right - pretty good odds!

It's just another Urban Legend (Myth).!!!
Only by doing a sonar scan can you tell the difference, cravings etc. is not going to tell you the babies gender.!!!

Some people seem good at telling gender. It isn't a general rule. I never heard of the side thing. I heard boys make the belly bigger and lower. I think some people just have good intuition.
