I think they were great, though I'm 18. Everything about them seemed like somehting I'd love and accept. With the whole racism thing aside, (Which i am 100% against) they would've been a perfect, peaceful, and productive time to live. I get sad and think that I would've felt at home then. These days people are out of control and not taking advantage of all the good, sweet, innocent things life has to offer. What do you think made people they are the way today?

I grew up in the 50's and I assure you wholeheartedly that you're completely correct.

One thing that always saddens me is that today is that kids don't have the great TV shows that we grew up with.

And don't listen to these liberals that say "it was only "Hollywood's portrayal," ect. I lived it and most of them haven't. Most of them want a liberal America to replace the great values that we once had.

the 50's wasn't without it's problems, but the difference between now and then is people had boundaries and knew right from wrong. most kids back then were raised in tradional christian conservative homes and had both a mother and father who were strict and demanded manners and good behavior and they were taught to be respectful to other adults. my father would've given me a whoopin i'd never forget if he ever found out i was disrespectful to an adult.

what went wrong is the counter culture movement of the late 60's broke down all mannerisms and tossed the rules out the window and taught kids to rebel against authority. over time, it just got worse and worse til we're now at the point where kids control the parents and aren't taught right from wrong .

that's why people are so out of control these days.

Nothing has changed except for our values and valiance. Now-a-days, we worry a lot which is the opposite of the 50's. Other than that, we contine on the American path of wanting bigger and better things. I think when we decide to have a little detachment to materialsim, we can concentrate more on our values and being more valiant then the world would be more like the "good old days" like the 50's.

The 50's were better times, because things were slower and the flesh was cleaner. Racism was still big, but at least it wasn't hidden like today. Today the governments of the world have people brainwashed into thinking money is God, now almost everyone is crazy and have no morals.

I grew up in the 50's and it was a time like you describe...my parents never told me not to talk to strangers(there were no strangers) and I could go to anyone for help at any time. We never heard of child molesters or crimes (even though I understand now that they existed) and the worst trouble that we ever got into was stealing apples off someone's tree...times were different...but there are a lot of improvements in the world now as well.

oh man I hated the 60's!
and it seemed that the 50's were blessed by God with a country that believed in God more than the rebellious generation.
However, did the rebellion happen because the godly parents provoked their children to anger. Was it the assination of Pres kennedy that opened the eyes of teenager to the corruption of Government?

That '50s good old days was just Hollywood's portrayal of it. Don't let it fool you. People back then struggled through life's ups and downs just like today. Just think of all the advances since then too - especially in medicine and technology.
