Because 2 of my guinea pigs were pregnant and they both only had 1 each which I thought was a bit strange. I thought they all had more then that, is it rare to have only 1?

I breed guinea pigs and on average they tend to have 3 to 4 per litter sometimes 5. Although when they have had 5, one of them has usually died from my experience. I have one pig though who has only had 1 baby in her last two pregnancies. She is getting on a bit so I don't know whether that it anything to do with it or not. She is retired now and living the life of luxury with her mother.

Mine had 4, but it depends on the age of the guinea pig, how often they have been mated, and how inbred they are. Don't forget that they should always be bred from before they are a year old because of dystocia which causes pain and difficulty giving birth. They are about the only animal that should be bred from as young as 12 weeks. Single births are not uncommon though.

The being pregnant will final for sixty 3 to 70 days. around 40 two days (six weeks) into the being pregnant you will be waiting to work out and experience the toddlers as they circulate around interior the womb. because of the fact the day of start attracts closer they are going to advance into greater energetic. do no longer try squeezing her physique to locate the toddlers as you may inflict a severe harm. sidestep any pointless dealing with over the final month. a common clutter is produced from 3 or 4 puppies. If the clutter is a lot larger you will could save a different watch on the mum for any indicators of a difficulty favourite as toxemia. ordinary indicators contain loss of urge for nutrition and twitching, observed by convulsions. obese sows are maximum in threat. you will could behave quickly and receive veterinary intervention if the sow's existence is to be saved. do no longer circulate away a boar with a sow while she has the toddlers as he will mate her as quickly because of the fact the toddlers are born... feeding one clutter at the same time as pregnant with yet another would be too annoying on the unfavourable female.

One is unusual but it happens. 3 or 4 is a good number. The biggest litter one of mine had was 7 but that's an awful lot. If the mother has a big litter she may need extra help feeding them though luckily they can eat grass straight away. She may also lose the hair on her rear end. It's a bit unslightly but it grows back and as long as it's kept clean shouldn't be a major problem.
