Monster and caffeine don't give you energy. They spike up your blood pressure and heart rate, artificially keeping you awake. However, you're not able to perform any better. If anything, it's worse - you're too exhausted to concentrate but you can't sleep, ensuring you'll perform badly tomorrow.

The suggestions regarding vitamin B, etc are excellent, but in the end the only thing that will help are better study habits. Eat balanced and healthy meals. Get regular sleep. You should have a regular bed time, and get no less than 7-8 hours of sleep a night. When you study you should feel alert and strong. Study without distractions - music, TV, cell phone, FOOD, etc. And it's absolutely true that when you start to feel fatigued, getting a few minutes away to recharge is good; but you should go back to the same ideal study conditions - which should be your only study conditions - within 10 minutes.

Very few people actually have the fortitude to follow through with these suggestions, but they're the ones getting As.

Perhaps all that sugar and caffeine is giving you too much energy, which might cause you to have a hard time focusing... Here is a trick that might work for you, since I get the impression that the class isn't exactly exciting- talk yourself into thinking that this is the most interestingly cool and amazing topic ever- for example, let's say you are taking a class on underwater basket weaving, psych yourself up to read it, "Oh boy, I can't wait to read this next chapter, it's all about how the chlorine affects the brittleness of the reed fibers! Joy!" Good studying.

Studies have shown that most people can only pay attention to something for 45-50 minutes at a time. So what you should do is plan a time to study, and plan a time to stop. Study for 45 minutes, take a 15-20 minute break, and go back to studying. It's better than trying to study for hours at a time, and you won't lose interest so quickly.

Take a 10 to 15 minute break after every 45 minutes of study.

Vitamin B complex in addition to a good daily multivitamin.

I feel your pain as I struggle with a graduate level microeconomics course. I go cross-eyed with the math and graphs. :o)

We can do it! YEAH!

Best wishes,

Sue

Hi,
I agree with JO.
Make a plan,
Try to move during your breaks.
Do not study at night.
Get a good night's sleep instead,
so you can start fresh every morning.
In this case there is no need for engery drinks, which do mor harm than they are good.
