That depends on the professor. Some take attendance and some don't. You just need to know what is required for that particular class and maintain.

This question all depends on your university. Many university professors do not take attendance. Therefore, you could technically miss the entire semester (except for test days) and get a good grade.

However, math classes are those type of classes that it is important to attend because the professors show you how to do the problems. Your book might show a bit of how to solve a problem, but your professor is there so that you can ask questions if you don't understand.

In addition, professors sometimes includes things on tests that are not in the book to "punish" individuals that do not attend class.

Try to go to class as much as possible so that you can understand the material.
