Originally from Canada, I have spent considerable time in Fiji and their many outter islands. My understanding is that the British introduced people from India to work in the sugar cane industry. This happened at the turn of the century and after 3 or 4 generations the Indian population has increased immensely.
Having lived and travelled extensively around Fiji, I have found the people - both Fijians and Indians to be the friendliest and most hospitable people of any country that I have visited.
