In the Great Lakes region there a groups called Polar Bears that actually go swimming in the middle of the winter. In Port Washington, Wisconsin they do this on New Years Eve every year.

I've had to chop holes through the ice and dive a pool to repair those that leak after they've been closed. Does that qualify?

Yes, I've done it before, but only in Florida. Anywhere else, probably not unless I had a wet suit on.

Are you kidding me? I do it all the time.
It's called water polo practice.
But I also do it for fun. November is the best. Or early spring.
