I haven’t bought a tree yet, but debating when I should pick one up. They are on sale now, but will it rot or go dry, creating a fire hazard? Because they are already cut down, even if I wait, it still will be the same amount of moisture in the tree. Am I correct? Please enlighten me if you know. Thanks!

When ever you cut a Christmas tree it starts losing moisture. You can buy a stand for one though. It has on the bottom a container to put water in and the tree will draw the water from this container type stand decreasing the fire danger.

In my family we've always bought the tree around December 15th, so that it won't be dry by the time Christmas comes around.

Last year, however, I asked the tree salesman when the trees had been cut, and he says them cut them down around mid to end of NOVEMBER. So, unless you go to a place where you can cut down your own tree the same day, I guess it really doesn't matter, since they've been cut for a while anyway. Just remember to water it often.

If you live where you can go and cut your own it would be better. You could start a family tradition. I use to love going and picking out the perfect tree. You would be helping out what would most likely be a family business and you will know the tree is fresh.

There are many types. Personally, I like the Live ones that you can plant and enjoy for years to come, plus the trees are good for the environment when they are the live ones you can plant.
